lesson 1-
Objective: complete an interest inventory, spelling inventory and start a running record. (completed in full); have student read and retell a story to me and complete a writing sample (did not complete)
Overview:Today, I did and interest inventory, spelling inventory and started a running record with my student. She was very willing to cooperate and I think was just enjoying some one-on-one time. I wanted to get a chance to listen to her read and to get a writing sample from her. Unfortunately, we ran out of time today and so I was unable to listen to her read or get a writing sample from her.
Student learned/struggled with: My student learned how to spell the word "purple" while completing her interest inventory. I also explained to her how to spell each word that she missed on the spelling inventory. I went over the letter sounds with her so that she understood her errors.
What I learned about myself as a teacher: I learned the importance of explaining to students what they missed and how to identify their errors. When the students know what they missed and why they missed it, they are less likely to make the same error again.
